Nescafé Made Coffee the Reward in a Game

Nescafé Made Coffee the Reward in a Game

Nescafé didn't just advertise inside Pakistan's mobile gaming ecosystem. It let gamers buy coffee through it. This is what happens when advertising becomes commerce.

First-Ever In-Game Commerce Execution in Pakistan

The Challenge

Nescafé needed a digital campaign that moved beyond awareness into active brand engagement and purchase intent. Standard brand advertising — social video, display banners, programmatic placements — was delivering reach but not conversion signals. The brief was ambitious: create a campaign that let Pakistan's digital audience not just see Nescafé advertising, but interact with it in ways that led directly to purchase consideration.

The mobile gaming ecosystem in Pakistan — with 50M+ players spending multiple hours daily — represented an audience that was actively engaged in an experience but had never been offered a brand interaction that went beyond a banner impression. The opportunity was to build something inside that experience that matched the engagement depth of the gaming medium itself: interactive, rewarding, social.

The specific creative challenge: build a format that Pakistan's gaming audience (predominantly 18–45, skewing male 70%/female 30%) would engage with, share with friends, and convert on — all within a mobile gaming context. No existing ad format in Pakistan's market had attempted in-game commerce at this scale.

The Solution

Happy Ads deployed Nescafé on Game Commerce — a first-in-Pakistan execution built by the Game Commerce Company platform. The campaign created interactive brand experiences inside mobile games, with three core engagement mechanics: a buy-now CTA accessible within the game session, social sharing via WhatsApp that allowed gamers to send Nescafé moments to friends, and a coupon copy mechanism that transferred a promotional code directly to the device clipboard for immediate use.

The campaign ran for 60 days across mobile gaming inventory, reaching 160,000+ unique users with approximately 2 million impressions. Smart brand placements were positioned at high-attention moments within gameplay — points of natural pause, level completions, and loading screens where user intent was high and distraction was low. Infrastructure upgrades (high-capacity VPS for ad delivery) and SDK enhancements across game partners were implemented mid-campaign to improve delivery speed and in-game tracking.

The performance signal that made this campaign remarkable was not just the 10% engagement rate (20× standard display benchmarks) but the quality of engagement: 3,000+ coupon copies (users taking promotional codes into their shopping journey), 5,000+ social shares via WhatsApp (earned media on top of paid placement), and a canvas-to-landing-page rate above 6% (users moving from in-game ad to the Nescafé product page).
